Gensokyo is a remote land isolated from the Outside World, where humans and youkai coexist. One day, Hakurei Shrine Maiden Reimu Hakurei notices mysterious pillars towering over various locations throughout Gensokyo. These pillars signal the start of the Spell Carnival, a festival held by Yukari Yakumo where players must cast their spell cards in battle. In order to find out the true intentions of Yukari Yakumo, who so suddenly initiated the Spell Carnival, Reimu Hakurei joins the battle for the spell cards.
