Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, a.k.a. the Penguin, makes a play to seize control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from a Bat-signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in The Penguin. In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought hard to have his own version of The Penguin smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but he failed. For his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley. The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman and I imagine those who haven’t seen the latter will be a bit lost. But I watched Batman a while ago, and this show did an admirable job of quickly picking up where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. It also recaps the film’s aesthetic and dark tone well, though the show has far more moments of sly levity than the film’s ;street type:" rough, dirty, lively, and prone to violence; but also understanding, cunning, and able to read people. The character may have absolutely nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. and I don’t know if The Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain an entire season. But so far, it’s off to a great start.
